Pink Hime Cut with Black Tips in Melbourne

Cheek-length side locks end in a sharp flick of black. A blunt pink fringe sits just above the eyes. Long layers fall past the shoulders, each one dipping into darkness at the ends. This is a pink layered hime cut with black tips, and it's one of the most graphic looks to come out of our Collingwood chairs.
The cut does most of the work. The hime shape starts with a full, straight fringe and shorter face-framing pieces at the sides of the face. Behind those, we kept the length long and cut it into layers, so the hair moves in tiers instead of hanging as one heavy curtain. Every layer has its own end, and that's what makes the colour work.
The colour is a soft, cool-toned pink through the mid-lengths, with black at the tips. Because the hair is layered, the black doesn't just sit at the bottom like a single line. It shows up at every level: under the cheekbones on the face-framing pieces, around the collarbone, and again near the ends. From the back you can see it best, with pink at the crown and black flicks breaking through at each layer before the ends turn fully dark.
Pink alone can read sweet. The black tips sharpen it, and the hime shape pulls it all together. With the fringe framing the eyes and the side locks tracing the jaw, it's a strong look for a grey Melbourne winter, and just as good against a black knit on Smith Street on a sunny afternoon.
